My name is Erin Hanton and I am the owner and operator of Faeye Photography.
I am best known for how I work with people. I love using my camera to showcase personality and the depth of human relationships. It's not about about the pose, it's about the feeling, and that is what I strive for in every photograph.
Nobody needs their photographer to add to their stress level. I'm about as laid back as they come. I will never force you to stick to an arbitrary schedule or make you feel guilty that your kid is having a bady day. I'm going to strive to do the very best I can for you, no matter what the circumstances are, or what comes out of left field.
I am truly passionate about capturing a real moment in time. I'm not interested in manufacturing them. While I might give you an action or location, how you are in the situation you're in that very moment is something I don't wish to change. I consider myself a "portrait journalist." I'm not enough of a fly on the wall to be considered a photojournalist in the style of the great street and newspaper photographers, but I am generally too distracted by the expression on your face or what I see in your eyes to pose your pinky finger. I'm interested in who you are and how you feel, not what position I might be able to twist you into.
I have a beautiful daughter that my career allows me to spend a lot of time with, a supportive and generous husband, and an extended family that has always been there. While it may not seem like it from my outgoing personality, I am a notorious homebody. I prefer to be at home with my family when I'm not working. My favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon is curled up with my husband, daughter, and pets watching a fabulous movie and eating delicious homemade food.
I grew up in a tiny little farm town on the southwest side of Lansing, Michigan called Dimondale. A large part of my extended family still lives there, all within two miles of one another. We are a close knit group living in a town where everyone knows who we are and waves hello. I moved to Wyoming, Michigan six years ago for my husband's job, but we still spend a lot of our spare time in Dimondale visiting my family, and I like to reward clients who give me the chance to work near there with what I call the Dimondale Perk.
I love all animals, but I have a special love for my favorite animals: cats, rabbits, goats, pigs, and bearded dragons. While it may seem like a strange assortment, I've always said that my dream family would include a giant lop-eared rabbit, a pygmy goat, and a miniature pig. I've been interested for a long time in the possibility of putting my photography to use for the good of others by coordinating a pet session fundraiser with proceeds going to our local Humane Society or animal shelter.
While I get excited about almost every session idea that is presented to me, I'm not the right photographer for everyone. If something I have done in the past is not to your liking, or you have a problem with my way of working, that's okay! It may be that another photographer's work is better suited to your vision, or their personality is more compatible with yours. I promise not to be offended, and I may even be able to make some alternative recommendations.
I am always up for trying something new. While I use digital equipment for most of my client work, I do dabble in film and I'm always excited when a client is willing for me to show my more artsy side. Have an idea for a session that you haven't seen me do? Let me know, and maybe I'll do a trial run with you for free!
